South
Asian Cochrane Network
The South Asian Cochrane Network (SACN) was established
in December 2004 as a branch of the Australasian Cochrane
Centre. The Network was formed to co-ordinate support
for the growing number of review authors based in the
following countries of the South Asian region: Bangladesh,
Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
A formal exploratory meeting for the Network took place
in Goa in December 2004 and was attended by 25 people
from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. At this
meeting a strategic plan was drafted and agreement reached
on the overall structure and operation of the Network.
The SACN consists of a central co-ordinating base at
the Christian Medical College in Vellore, and a devolved
network of sites across the South Asian region, each
contributing to and supporting the activities of the
Network. The SACN currently comprises eight sites in
India, two in Pakistan, one in Bangladesh and one in
Sri Lanka.
