2011 Australasian Cochrane Symposium
Thank you to everyone who came to the Symposium and helped make the day a great success. We’re pleased to make available slidecasts of the plenary presentations and the Programme Book (PDF 2.3MB) which contains abstracts of the contributed papers.
Communication and Impact

Welcome to the website of the 2011 Australasian Cochrane Symposium. The theme of this year’s Symposium is Evidence, Communication and Impact and we hope many of you will join us in Melbourne on Friday 1 July. You don’t need to be a Cochrane contributor to attend the Symposium - this meeting provides a great opportunity to learn more about the use of evidence to inform decision making and the Cochrane Collaboration’s role in this.
For nearly 20 years Cochrane has been striving to make good its promise to help people – clinicians, policy makers and patients – make informed choices about health care. At this meeting, we’ll hear from Georgia Salanti and Paul Glasziou about new initiatives to enhance the usefulness of our reviews and new perspectives on the perennial challenge of moving from reviews to practice.
Janette Randall from the National Prescribing Service will provide an insight into how the NPS uses evidence to underpin its educational programs and frame messages direct to consumers (as in the current Being Medicinewise campaign). We’ll hear from David Tovey, Editor in Chief, about the latest developments and innovations affecting The Cochrane Library, and Jonathan Craig, Co-Chair of the Cochrane Collaboration, will share his thoughts about how the Collaboration needs to evolve to remain at the forefront of evidence-based decision making.
As well as two plenary sessions, we’re offering several workshops and the opportunity for you to present your own work during the contributed paper session.
For statisticians and review methodologists, we’re delighted that Georgia Salanti will be offering a half-day pre-Symposium advanced workshop on multiple-treatments meta-analysis.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Malthouse Theatre in Melbourne, and encourage you to take advantage of the early fee ($150) by registering before 16 June.
